Supporting Habitat For Humanity this morning are Denise Bower and Laura Hall. Thank you to all of those who helped support this phenomenal, life-changing organization.

On Saturday, July 28th, eight of us from Willamette Lanscape Services and CMI, as well as individuals from Schwindt & Co and Collier Arbor Care took part in this year’s American Diabetes Association benefit bicycle ride.

Together we raise $2,455 to suport this cause. Thank you to all those who participated for you generous contributions.

This was both fun and rewarding. We are already planning an even larger showing next year!

The Chown Pella water towers are an integral part of the 13thAvenue Historic District on the National Register. They are two of the three remaining wooden water towers in the Pearl District. Wooden Water towers are part of the history of this industrial area of the early 1900s and are an iconic part of the Pearl District. The water tower image is on every street sign of the Pearl. It is in the logos of the Pearl District Neighborhood Association and the Pearl District Business Association. The Chown Pella towers are seen from across the District, a visible reminder of our rich history.

These water towers were installed as part of the original Chown Pella building in 1910. They have weathered well over the decades, but now are in dire need of our care to stabilize and restore the structures so that they can be appreciated as part of the Pearl story for decades to come. The Chown Pella Board is seeking to partner with the Pearl District community to preserve these historic water towers.

Our goal is to restore both towers to avoid their removal. The cost estimate for the restoration project for both towers is $35,000. The Chown Pella community has committed to funding the first half of the restoration costs. We need our Pearl District community’s help to complete this restoration. We are asking you to join us to save these historic towers!

Funding Campaign Goal: $18,000

In appreciation:

Sponsors: All donors of $1000 or more will be listed on a highly visible banner on the Chown Pella building during the restoration process, thanking them for their partnership. Sponsors are invited to use the rooftop deck of the Chown Pella for their private party in 2016. They will receive a signed, limited edition print and set of notecards with the photographs of the towers by professional photographer, Tom Hassler.

Partners: Donors of $500 or more will receive a signed, limited edition print and set of notecards with the photographs of towers seen from several community locations. These photos are taken by Tom Hassler, noted professional photographer who lives in the Pearl District.

Donors of $100 or more will receive notecards with the photographs of towers by Tom Hassler, noted professional photographer, who lives in the Pearl District.

All contributors will be acknowledged on the Save Our Historic Pearl Water Towers Gofundme page.

The Pearl District in Portland was made even more beautiful with the help of six “Polishers” from CMI. “Polish the Pearl” is an annual event put on by the Pearl District neighborhood association. This event is a great example an an exceptional community coming together to keep their community clean, and involve residents in the care and preservation of a gem of an area.  The photos from this event include CMI’s President, Denise Bower, Vice President Nancy La Voie, Community Managers Ilsa Weishar, Emma Beach, Karina Haley, and Community Administrator Chelsea Campbell. Thank you “polishers” for helping one of Portland’s many thriving communities remain beautiful!

Members of the CMI family participated in the Pearl District Neighborhood Association event, Polish the Pearl, on April 20, 2013.

On Saturday, June 22nd, 2013, we had the privilege of taking part in “Hunger Doesn’t Vacation,” a summer food box delivery drive which was organized by the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division.  The Portland Police Bureau founded the Sunshine Division in 1923 to provide emergency food and clothing relief to Portland families and individuals in need.  For ninety years the Sunshine Division has built a legacy of mobilizing quickly and efficiently to assist distressed Portlanders, whether due to job loss, illness, disaster or fire victims, or domestic crime.

This particular campaign was designed to address childhood hunger issues which can arise during summer breaks.  During the school year, children have access to free or reduced price breakfasts and lunches five days a week at their local schools. During the summer, however, these meals are unavailable to those children. This causes thousands of local children to go without two of their three meals each weekday.

With the help of Portland Police Officers and other community volunteers, we were able to successfully deliver 1,100 boxes of food to Portland area families.  This effort included about 200 groups of “drivers” who volunteered their time and vehicles to deliver boxes of food to homes throughout the Portland area.  Community Management’s “Green Envy” Ford Fiesta and Royal Purple CMI logo stood out in the crowd as we made deliveries to a number of smiling, appreciate families in our beautiful Portland area.

A very special thanks to Justin Connell for his efforts on behalf of this food delivery.

Keeping with tradition over the years, CMI is involved with several projects to help those in need during the holidays:

1) CMI will host a toy bin in the front entry of the Portland location building. Please bring: a new unwrapped toy appropriate for a child. The “Angels on Wheels Toy Run” is organized by the Multnomah Hot Rod Council, more information about the “run” they do on December 12thcan be found on their website (located here). The bin is in the entry now!

2)    We will again partner with the Sunshine Division on DECEMBER 11th, 2015 and invite clients and vendors to donate food at CMI’s Portland location, we welcome monetary donations in addition to food. Please invite anyone whom you think may like to attend. Santa will also be at this fun event!

3)    CMI is also helping to support those in need in the China and Old town areas of Portland by helping feed more than 200 hungry people on Christmas day.

4)    For a “closer to home” effort, CMI will be undertaking a large-scale effort to provide 50 individual bags of food and supplies to those who are homeless in the local community around the Portland office.

CMI associates (and non-CMI friends and family) recently visited two senior living facilities to sing Christmas carols and pass out blankets to residents.

It was wonderful night filled with classic holiday songs and meeting the residents.  We truly enjoyed seeing the smiles on their faces as we sang and gave them a Christmas stocking.  We sure hope they enjoyed our visit as much as we did!

Thanks to the overwhelming support of our valued clients, vendors and business associates, the Sunshine Division Food Bank received 5,308 lbs of food (over 2 ½ tons!!!) and over $3,000 in cash donations. On behalf of the Sunshine Division and all of us at CMI, we are truly grateful for your continuing commitment to Portland families in need.

CMI volunteered at the 2012 NW Natural Street Of Dreams. CMI Community Managers Nancy LaVoie, Tom LaVoie, and Steve Meyer volunteered at the concession stand for a day at the 2012 NW Natural Street Of Dreams, located on beautiful Bull Mountain this year.
